Our church is a small rural church that entered into a 5 phase building program in 2005. We made a decision early on not to put our church into debt. We finished the first 4 phases and were able to pay for them as we went along. The last phase was the Worship Center which we began in January of 2012. Since we were a small congregation with an average attendance of 150 people, we were working on a very tight budget. The size of our auditorium would be 100’ x 53’. We were advised by another church that had just finished their new building not to make the same mistake they made; they chose not to use a sound engineer in an attempt to save money. They now realize that in order to fix the frequency issues they themselves created, it will cost them more money and much of what they have already spent has been wasted.
We took their advice and hired Larry at Awestruck Studio’s. We brought him in at the onset of our design. He advised us on structural decisions from designing the stage, the type of insulation, the location of acoustical panels and even in the design of the HVAC system. He met with our General Contractor and gave advice on doing things in the rough-in that would pay dividends in the end result of frequencies through the building. He met with the installer that would be in charge of our HVAC system and helped to engineer a system that has virtually eliminated all noise when it is in full operation. Both of these contractors commented on how much they learned by working with him on this project. Both of these men have been in business for over 30 years and admitted to never giving any thought to these types of details.
Larry was told right up front that we were working on a very tight budget. He was always very sensitive to the ascetic details that we wanted to incorporate into the room. I must say it was a pleasure working with him. There were times that I questioned certain things he recommended but he has proven to me now that details matter. We have a sound quality that is absolutely amazing. We receive compliments every week from young and old alike as to how amazing the song service sounds. We have learned first-hand that when a building is treated correctly, you can get more for less when it comes to buying sound equipment.
